Before I got the I've landed text, I got a follow notification.
The profile was a business speaker coach and entrepreneur who sent me a DM along the lines of:
I just met your dad on a plane to Calgary and he told me about what you do! I'm super excited to follow you and can't wait to connect!
(or something along those lines Instagram is currently Bricked on my phone so I can't pull up the original DM)
Then, shortly after, a message from my dad:
He explained that he spent the two hours from Winnipeg to Calgary chatting with his seatmate (my new follower) about entrepreneurship, technology, AI and public speaking. And in the process, was also networking on my behalf.
My dad is also a business owner and entrepreneur and one of the most friendly people on the planet.
*Much to the chagrin of his introverted daughters* he will strike up a conversation with nearly anyone and often has stories about the people he's met in the course of his day and his travels.
All that to say, he would be really good at writing a story-based newsletter. He has stories upon stories - bizarre, hilarious, terrible, heartwarming, serendipitous.
Watching my dad casually collect stories and connections like loose change reminded me of something I already know but periodically forget.
Interesting writing isn't about having the most interesting life.
It’s about paying attention and taking note of the seemingly unimportant moments.
The weird, funny, human stuff that happens when you’re not trying to create content.
And that’s where the newsletter planning comes in.
While I sipped red wine and worked on my mushroom puzzle, I found a hidden UFO and I listened to BTL Copy's newsletter planning workshop. The task? Plan 52 newsletter ideas in an hour.
Yep, that's one newsletter a week for the year.
I've been sending weekly-ish story-based newsletters since mid-2025 and it has honestly been easier than biweekly. It's a non negotiable and a habit and I just do it.
But in very non organized Virgo fashion I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type of writer. I typically write The Fertile Flow the day of or the day before, and I usually don't have a plan till I sit down to write.
It works but...
...the process of planning my newsletters and categorizing my stories ahead of time will save me mental energy and give you even more more actionable, helpful, entertaining emails in your inbox!
So what's changing?
The Fertile Flow is still the same vibe (BBT, cervical mucus and charting tips, entertaining stories, charting mindset and imperfection, trusting yourself over apps, and challenging the cult of wellness), but with a liiiittle more structure.
Also as a result of kinda cheated with my 52 ideas and planned a monthly favourites roundup for the last Monday of each month!! I'm super excited to bring you more of a Nat Awards style email each month with the things, mindset, podcast, book and products I'm loving.
More honesty bc I am tired of overthinking what I really want to say.
More stories, FAM advice, mindset shifts and biz bts. Take a sneaky peek 👀
Are you excited, cause I am. I also might be wrangling my dad to help me think of EVEN more stories I can turn into newsletter content.
AND if you're a business owner/service provider/FAM educator/coach/herbalist thinking about your coming year in business and wanting Virgo-level support to set up your offers, marketing and sales mindset, turning your stories into newsletters, etc, so you can have the BEST YEAR in biz yet, hit a girl up. I'm taking 6 week and 3 month business coaching clients!
